The Joy of Giving

This is the happiest time of the year, but what can we do when we have “more month than money” and have limited amounts of money for Christmas giving. One of the most valuable gifts we can give is the gift of “time”. Think about your neighbor who is alone and lonely. A simple good morning phone call will mean a lot to them. Give a few minutes to do small chores for them.

The world is filled with many worries due to the slumping economy. Lack of money is a big issue. We can cheer up our friends with a little “gift basket” containing useful items for the kitchen, note cards and stamps, hand lotion, lip ice, crackers, dry soup mix, etc.

When I was growing up my mother and father had many money problems. I was the seventh of eight children. We always had wonderful times and never felt “poor”. My mother cooked many kinds of soup, vegetables from the garden, chickens my father raised, and lots of eggs for baking and cooking. There were always some baked treats waiting for us when we came home from school.

In winter time we sat in the kitchen warmed by the coal stove, played board games and laughed a lot. We always had room at the dinner table for friends who may have dropped in. My father always said, “The more the merrier!”

We always shared our food with the neighbors, so “giving” just came naturally. Our handmade clothes were also shared when we outgrew them, and were greatly appreciated by the recipients.

During the holiday season we are surrounded by the “spirit of giving”. Let us continue it all through the year and experience the “Joy of Giving”.

credit_scoringi2Why Should I Check My Credit Report?

It is a good idea to check your credit report periodically to see your credit score & to see if anyone has potentially used your information to open up an account without you knowing.

Identity theft affects many people. If you check your credit report periodically, it helps you know immediately if someone is using your information to obtain credit.

How Often Can I Get a Free Report?

The government entitles you to 1 free credit report per year per credit bureau. There are three credit bureaus, Equifax, Experian, and Trans Union. I like to get 1 new report every 4 months from each bureau. Example: Trans Union in January, Equifax in May, and Experian in September. This way I can detect any changes within a 4 month period.

Where Can I Get A Credit Report with No Strings Attached?

There are 3 ways to get your free report.
1) By going online to www.AnnualCreditReport.com
2) By calling: 1-877-322-8228

3) To Request your Credit Report by Mail
Download the request form from www.annualcreditreport.com
Print and complete the form
Mail the completed form to:

Annual Credit Report Request Service
P.O. Box 105281
Atlanta, GA 30348-5281

Your reports will be mailed to you within 15 days. Please, allow 2-3 weeks for delivery.
